What is globalization - Jeong jiyoon

1. The meaning of globalization

In my opinion, globalization is a process in which people and countries are getting closer. Long ago, it was difficult to contact distant countries, and even if we purchased a product from overseas, it took months to receive it. But now, we are connected to a foreign country with just a click. With the Internet, airplanes, and smartphones, the world feels much smaller than before. Therefore, globalization is a phenomenon in which lifestyles and cultures are interconnected. This is not limited to economics or trade

2. Cultural encounters and changes

As globalization progressed, cultures from different countries blended and were recreated. For example, K-pop and Korean media have been gaining popularity overseas recently. The Netflix original 'Squid Game 3' ended the series with a foreshadowing of the overseas edition. 'Squid Game' gained popularity by showing traditional Korean things well in videos. So I became curious about how 'Squid Game' would combine Korean cultures with foreign cultures to make videos in overseas editions. Countries exchange cultures and become similar, and sometimes they create new cultures. Globalization is a process of mixing different colors.

3. Advantages and disadvantages

We can make foreign friends more easily, learn about values from different perspectives, and experience different foods. However, factories may close in some countries and nature may be destroyed in some areas. In other words, globalization may be a danger to some people.

4. Globalization I felt

I often feel globalized in my daily life. When I buy coffee at a convenience store, the coffee beans are from Brazil and the chocolate is from Swiss companies. Also, on SNS, foreign and Korean friends use the same buzzword and share the same meme. In this way, I realize that we are connected as one network even if we are in other countries.

5. What I learned

In the era of globalization, it was imperative to understand the values of other cultures. In addition, because it is connected to various cultures in everyday life, we learned that the world is a living network that influences each other.

6. Conclusion

Globalization requires a clear understanding of the opportunities and risks that arise from connecting cultures. In the future, I would like to understand globalization as a process in which cultures and people's relationships grow together, not just economic changes. In addition, I want to explore further whether globalization is benefiting all regions and people fairly or whether it is a trend that favors only some.
