What is the relation between politics and globalization?---JIANGJIASHAN(강가삼)

  1. Summary

In the past three decades, "globalization" has become one of the most important keywords in world political, economic, and social changes. Globalization is not just about the acceleration of cross-border movements of goods, capital, and population; it is also a force that profoundly influences the structure of national power, the functioning of international institutions, and political identity. The relationship between politics and globalization is not a simple causal relationship but an interaction that shapes each other: politics drives the expansion of globalization, which in turn reshapes its boundaries, subjects, and agendas.Globalization weakens and redefines the power boundaries of traditional "sovereign states." Traditional political science viewed the state as a unified whole of territory, people, government, and sovereignty, but in the context of globalization, this single-state political structure faces challenges. Globalization is not a natural phenomenon; it is the result of countries driving it, which in turn affects them. Globalization often strengthens the rule-making power of developed countries, while developing countries have limited voice in international organizations, leading to imbalanced interests.

 2. Something New and Interesting

Globalization has brought about industrial relocation, job losses, and cultural shocks, causing unease for many people. This spurred nationalist, trade protectionist, and anti-immigrant movements across countries. For example, "anti-globalization" in the United States and Brexit are typical cases.Even though the issues of globalization are transnational, international politics still operates at the national level. The lack of a truly binding "global government" makes it difficult to achieve consistent solutions to issues such as the refugee crisis, climate change, and cybersecurity.

3. Questions and Discussions

Politics and the Future of Globalization: Toward Cooperative Governance or Further Divide?Countries are placing greater emphasis on supply chain security, local production, and strategic technological controls, such as chips, energy, and food. This represents a form of "selective globalization."
