What is the relation between politics and globalization?——HE ZIXUAN(하자선)

1. Summary

Politics and globalization are really connected. As globalization makes it easier for goods, technology, people, and ideas to move around the world, governments have to think not just about what’s best for their own country, but also about international pressures. Global markets can change economic policies, migration can affect social policies, and international organizations influence how countries interact with each other.

At the same time, political choices—like foreign policy, trade deals, environmental agreements, or military alliances—also shape how fast and in what way globalization happens. Politics sets the rules, while globalization changes the playground. So, it’s really a two-way street: politics affects globalization, and globalization affects politics.

2. Something New and Interesting

One cool thing is the rise of global governance networks—basically groups of governments, NGOs, companies, and international organizations making rules together. For example, rules about internet privacy or AI aren’t decided by one government anymore; it’s a mix of countries and private actors. It’s like a new kind of political power that goes beyond borders.

Another interesting trend is how local politics can have a global impact. A vote in one country can affect markets in another; a protest somewhere can inspire similar actions elsewhere; even a company’s supply chain can become a political issue. This means people today are involved in politics on two levels: at home and globally. Things we do every day—like what we buy or which apps we use—can become part of a worldwide conversation.

3. Questions and Discussions

A question to think about:

Is globalization changing what it means for a country to have control over itself, making governments share power with international institutions, big companies, and even global citizens?

A discussion point:
Globalization doesn’t just weaken countries. It forces them to adapt. Countries that adjust their policies quickly and work well with others often get more influence in the world. On the other hand, countries that resist global rules can end up being left out—both economically and politically.
