What is the relation between culture and globalization? - Jin Youri(진유리)
1. the connection between culture and globalization
I think globalization is not just a process of goods or money coming and going, but a process of mixing people's thoughts and cultures. As cultures such as film, music, food, and clothing cross borders, a country's fashion quickly spreads around the world. Therefore, globalization becomes a way for cultures to spread and a stage where cultures interact with each other.
2. the spread and sharing of culture
Thanks to globalization, we can easily access the culture of other countries. For example, in foreign countries, we enjoy K-pop and Korean dramas, and we watch American movies or European fashion. As such, globalization plays a role in expanding the door of culture. However, at the same time, the culture of a strong country becomes the center, and the culture of a weak country is pushed back.
3. a change in local culture
As globalization progresses, local culture also changes. Similar foods have increased as fast food restaurants have opened around the world, but each country localizes them to suit its taste. For example, McDonald's in Korea has bulgogi burger and Teriyaki Burger in Japan. As such, globalization does not make culture all the same. Rather, it creates a new hybrid culture.
4. cultural identity and balance
In the midst of globalization, many people ask the question, "Who am I?" again. It's good to accept foreign cultures, but it's also important to protect your culture and identity. Like Hallyu or traditional culture experiences, the movement to promote Korean culture to the world is an effort to find such a balance. In the end, globalization also serves as an opportunity to better understand one's culture.
5. The culture and globalization I felt
I often feel this relationship while watching YouTube. It's amazing to see people from different countries react to the same song or communicate with the same meme in a video. However, at the same time, there are misunderstandings in the comments because of their cultural differences. Looking at this, I learned that globalization is not just about "sharing" culture, but a process in which we must learn and understand each other carefully.
6. Conclusion
Culture and globalization are inseparable from each other. Globalization leads to the spread of culture, and culture makes globalization richer. But what matters is direction rather than speed. Globalization should move in a direction where all cultures are respected and diversity is recognized. That's when we'll really live in a "world where we can enjoy different cultures together."
