What is the relation between culture and globalization? - Minjoo Kim
1. summary
Culture includes the main behavioral patterns or symbolic systems of a society and encompasses various elements such as food, clothing, shelter, language, customs, religion, art, and institutions. Globalization is a phenomenon in which the boundaries of nation-states weaken in all fields such as politics, economy, society, and culture as interdependence between countries increases, and human civilization gradually converges into a single system. In other words, globalization can be seen as a process of weakening cultural boundaries between countries.
2. My thought
I think the magnitude of the power of culture has a direct impact on globalization. For example, it is easy to see if you look at K-pop. In Korea, the size of the country is small, and the history is not long compared to other countries, so until a few years ago, most people went abroad and said, "I'm from Korea," and most of them were asked, "North or South," but other than that, they did not receive much attention. However, as the status of K-pop has grown so much in recent years, many foreigners have learned about Korea, visited it, and started talking a lot. Now, when I think of Korea, many foreigners naturally think of K-pop and ask various questions. If you look at the examples of Korean idols performing in world-class performances in other countries, and K-pop Demonhunters recently performed the hit Golden at large events such as Thanksgiving in the United States, you can see how much the culture of a country and globalization are related.
3. Discussion
As K-pop becomes more and more globalized, there are talks about losing Korean colors, so how would you protect the color of your own culture while leading globalization?
