What is the relation between culture and globalization? -JIANGJIASHAN

1. Summary

I believe globalization is the process by which countries around the world are becoming increasingly interconnected. In the past, we might have relied on books or television to understand foreign cultures, but now through the internet, social media, movies, and music, we can easily access cultures from around the world.

For example, Hollywood movies from the United States, K-pop from South Korea, anime from Japan, and short video content from China are all popular worldwide, with people watching, listening to, and imitating them. One could say that globalization has accelerated the spread of culture and made it easier for us to understand the lifestyles and values of different countries.

But globalization has also brought some problems. For example, Western culture, particularly English culture, holds significant influence, with many young people following Western aesthetics and values in various places. Local cultures are instead overlooked and even considered "outdated" or "not cool." So, the impact of globalization on culture is actually dual: it presents both opportunities and challenges.

2. Interesting points

Now, many popular cultures are actually a blend of multiple cultures. For example, K-pop blends American hip-hop, European electronic music, and Korean elements; China's "National Trend" brands also blend traditional cultural symbols with modern designs, making young people feel both fashionable and culturally confident.

Additionally, now everyone can participate in cultural dissemination. Previously, culture was primarily disseminated through television stations and movie companies, but now ordinary people can share their culture through platforms like Douyin, YouTube, and Instagram. For example, international students filming videos to introduce cultural differences between China and South Korea, and African youth showcasing traditional dances, can all go viral worldwide. This "grassroots globalization" makes cultural exchange more equitable and vibrant.

3. Discussion and Conclusion

We can see that the relationship between culture and globalization is extremely complex. Globalization brings the world closer, but it also blurs the lines between cultures. We can better understand others, but we may also lose the uniqueness of our own culture in the process.

So, in the face of globalization, we need to have "cultural awareness." That is, when we learn about and interact with other cultures, we should not forget our own cultural roots. A country's culture is not just its historical heritage; it is also the foundation of our innovation. For example, Chinese young people can learn from Korea's popular culture production methods, but they can also spread Chinese culture in their own way, which is a form of positive globalization.

The UNESCO has a saying I really like: "Cultural diversity is a common wealth of humanity." " The meaning is that the world's brilliance lies precisely in the fact that each place has its own unique culture. We need to respect differences and courageously showcase ourselves.
